What do you wear when fishing in cold weather, long johns on out. I usually start with long johns the weight depends on the projected temps for the day, then shirt and pants. I may then wear a wool sweater, wool helps retain warmth even when wet. From there I may have a fleece vest and a jacket. If there is much of a wind and the chance for rain or snow I will wear my rain jacket with hood and some sort of hat or head covering. I have a balaclava if it’s really cold. Am I forgetting anything? I know I did what were they?

Bill,
If I am heading out to fish in mid to low 30 degree weather I start with Patagonia base layer bottoms n top. Simms thin/calf length socks and Reddington heavy fleece under wader pants. Heavy Simms wool socks with “Hothands” chemical foot length watmers.
Top will be a Patagonia mid-weight base layer and a long sleeve fleece 1/4 zip top with hood. I have a heavy, wind stopper Simms long sleeve shirt. Top this off with a rain jacket as this is a great wind break.
Hands- start with black laytex gloves and top with Simms fingerless/flip over mits. Put the “hot hands” chemical warmers in the Simms glove pockets. Hands stay pretty workable.
Head- fleece balacave or Simms wind stopper beanie and ball hat. If wind is up, both hoods come up.
The above is good for mid 30 degree temps. Colder than that and 8 just stay home.
