Oh Grasshoppers,
I have been away for awhile but have heard that your fishing has been up and down – so to say – like your weather. Cold two days and warm the next two. Fronts move through fast – no consistency. So I ask you. Does weather effect your fishing and how??? -

Oh great one. In my case yes, especially cold fronts. Frozen fingers make knot tying impossible results fish breaking off and lost flies!?
Seriously, good question. I look forward to hearing more experience Flyfishers opinions. Kenny are you out there? -

Yes, I’m out here!! I have read that fronts, weather changes and full moons can change fishing or make it better. Not sure what I believe. But I think the Sensei has a good point. Do we just wait for the weather we want or do we just go and DO IT!

We caught fish ar the springs and in the river when the weather was 18 degrees. early I caught fish on scuds then it warmed up and emergers and Griffith gnats were key, those were smaller size 18 and 20. So yes fish do bite in the cold but smaller flies may be the key.

I am going to give a compliment to some of the FATC members and hopefully not purposefully tick off some other good fly fishermen of FATC if I leave anybody out as I put my “2 cents worth in. Why is is that when some of the better fishermen of the group like Kenny Klimes, Mike Bisaga, Terry Seaton, Jim Frankee, Bruce Morton, Gabby (what is his real name?), Bruce Morton, Tim Graham, Larry Fararr, and Dave Beerbower often catch fish when we fish as a group when the rest of us are often struggling? The rest of us are often blaming the weather when the better fly fishermen are just adapting and using a different method that what the rest of us our using and blaming it on the weather, not enough fish being released, water too high or too low, etc. Fish are going to eat anytime there is food available and we just need to try and figure out what are they eating! This is like saying after our wives fixes us a great meal and we are stuffed “to he gills” that we do not have room for dessert when they bring out our favorite cake or pie! When that happens I am sure we all grab it before anybody else has a chance! Guys the more that you fish the less you can blaim the weather on your lack of success! I am amazed when I do not fish for a while and I finally get the chance to fish it is like I have forgotten everything that I have had the priviledge of Kenny (and years ago my Dad) trying to teach me! On the flipside I am amazed when I get to fish a lot over a short period of time how much flyfishing just feels natural!

Well said, oh faithful Grasshopper! Don’t blame slow fishing on weather but use your knowledge to catch the trout. Remember, the trout’s brain is the size of a pea and ours is much larger. Well, most of ours.

Does weather affect the fishing? Darn right it does! I’m sitting here in a Starbucks drinking coffee because the rain won’t stop, the streams are rising and the forecast is more of the same.

When dry fly fishing out west, guides will tell u that clear hot weather is not the best for fishing.
Our group ( to the man) had their best day ever when the sky’s were overcast, it was cool ( upper 70s) with a slight drizzle.
Fish don’t have eyelids n don’t like look up into the sun.
