Not to be an elitist but what do you think about or feel when you watch this film. This is us. You are a missourian so is this what the “outsiders” think of Missouri trout fishing or do you disagree? I’d really like to know your opinions on this. Tradition, only a few days of the year, camaraderie, what is it?

I respect people opinions. Who am I to judge. The writer has a job to do and, the writer can put words down on any certain subject. It’s the writer’s opinion on how/what direction the story/article takes. How we receive the words is totally personal.
Since you ask. I had neither a negative or positive feeling about this article or video. I have no control over how others feel or perceive other traditions, camaraderie, etc… Everyone is entitled to their on opinions. This is what in my opinion makes America great. Probably not the answer you were looking for, but in my OPINION… ..Missouri is a hidden secret in the fly fishing community. I’m perfectly fine in keeping it that way. Again, I can’t control others on others OPINIONS!?
Who’s ready to go fishing in my beautiful home state of Missouri?? -

It’s a tradition to some, a party to others. It isn’t just the opener for many people and it is a put and take fishery, to begin with. As long as those people want to pay it is fine with me. I would much rather fish outside the park during that time of year anyway. I recently asked the question on the North American Fly Fishing Forum, Where should I go for the best year-round fishing in the US. Most of the answers came back to Missouri-Arkansas border. With our Streams and tailwaters. It would be hard to beat. Just don’t tell anyone.

I like it. Hopefully everyone outside Missouri will see this and think it is this crowded all the time. This will leave the other 364 days of the year for us to enjoy.

Opening day seems to be a tradition for many fisherman / families. I’ve talked to several people who grew up as little kids going to opening day and continue participate annually and now have introduced their own kids. A passing of the tradition through the family tree. Although it’s not something I get involved in because of the crowd, I have to be honest I went a couple years along time ago to mostly just watch the chaos and laugh at all the tangled lines. It’s actually hilarious. It’s just one day of the year and the DOC prepares for it and overstocks the river for fish to be taken. I don’t think it gives Missouri rivers an overall bad rap. Anybody that has knowledge of the Trout Parks or does a little research knows to stay away this day if it isn’t their style. The fact that they charge a fee for a Trout tag and you need a MO fishing license offsets the cost involved I would think. I guess it also starts the year off on a profitable note for the campground, store, lodge etc. Think of how many flies, stringers, misc stuff they sell. I guess everyone needs to make a buck. Who knows, maybe the whole thing is a big conspiracy in that the fish cleaning grinder disposal fills up fast and the state is charging a premium dollar for this fish fertilizer and some corrupt politician is pocketing the money? Hmmm… Could that really happen?
