ParticipantWill Missouri have a Cicada hatch of any kind this year? I have been seeing a lot of videos on tying the Cicada fly and they look interesting, and it would be fun to fish something that large for a change.

ParticipantThere were a few newscast last week or the week before last stating that this will be a banner year for Cicadas, with several broods emerging this Summer, but then somebody told me over the weekend at Taneycomo that Illinois would get the brunt of the hatch, and Missouri not so much. With just a little research, I’ve learned that the big hatch this year will be mostly in Indiana, and not affect Missouri much at all. Here’s a link to an article and map that will explain it all.

ParticipantI was there this past weekend, and spent Saturday afternoon using nothing but a cicada (https://www.flyfishfood.com/blogs/dry-fly-tutorials/project-cicada)
I was surprised at how aggressively the trout would go after it. I only landed two, but I think that maybe the fly was a little on the big side. Maybe if it had been tied on an 8 with a little smaller body I would have caught more. I don’t have anything to back up that theory. Either way, I had a ball tormenting the fish all afternoon with it.
