Charlie Kirk’s assassination has been on my mind a lot since last Wednesday. And BTW, if you haven’t listened to Charlie’s wife, Erika’s video message—I would highly recommend you do so!

Last Wednesday, September 10, was also week one of our current 6-week FATC Book Study. We are discussing John Eldredge’ bestseller, Wild at Heart. 33 men are participating in the study.

Early in his book, Eldredge mentions, about being “a dangerous man…in a good way.” This really got me thinking…Charlie Kirk was a dangerous man (in a good way)! William Wallace (Braveheart) was a dangerous man (in a good way)! Jesus Christ was a dangerous man (in a good way)!

They were all warriors! My Savior and King is the greatest Warrior ever…and in essence, He calls all his followers to be warriors. I’m convinced Jesus is not looking for fans, I’m convinced he wants his followers to be more than fans! If you know anything about Charlie Kirk, you know that he was much more than a fan of Jesus Christ! And Charlie Kirk regularly stepped out of his comfort zone and into the battle zone. Probably, none of us will ever speak before an angry mob on a college campus, but will we speak of what our Savior has done –the Gospel and our testimony –to a neighbor or a friend?

John Eldredge asks in his book, “Honestly—how do you see yourself as a man? Are words like strong, passionate, and dangerous words you would choose? Do you have the courage to ask those in your life what they think of you as a man? What words do you fear they would choose?”

John also wrote, “Without a great battle in which a man can live and die, the fierce part of his nature goes underground and sort of simmers there in a sullen anger that seems to have no reason.”

I implore you all, don’t run from the battle…be more than a fan! Be a warrior!

While meditating on Charlie’s assassination, I was reminded of the powerful and famous sermon from the black preacher S.M. Lockridge when he was the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in San Diego. The sermon was an Easter meditation and speaks to the hope of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, even during a time of sorrow and darkness. His sermon contrasted the despair of Good Friday with the ultimate victory of Easter Sunday.

      It’s Friday…

Jesus is praying. Peter is asleep. Judas is betraying…

      but Sunday’s a Comin’.

      It’s Friday…

Pilate is struggling, the Sanhedrin is conspiring, the crowd is vilified…

they don’t even know that Sunday’s a Comin’.

      It’s Friday…

The disciples are running in every direction like sheep without a shepherd,

      Mary’s crying, Peter is denying…

      but they don’t know…that Sunday’s a Comin’.

It’s Friday…the Romans beat my Jesus, they robe him in scarlet

      they crown him with thorns,

      but they don’t know, Sunday’s a Comin’!

See Jesus walking to Calvary, his blood dripping,

his body stumbling, and his spirit’s burdened,

but see it’s only Friday, Sunday’s a Comin’!

The world’s winning, people are sinning

      and evil’s grinning…

it’s Friday, but let me tell you something…

      Sunday’s a Comin’!

It may be Friday for us, but it’s Sunday for Charlie Kirk. Psalm 116:15 says, “Precious is the blood of the martyrs in the eyes of the LORD.” I trust Charlie heard the words we should all hope to hear someday from our LORD, “Well done good and faithful servant.”
