I’m trying to gather materials for tying the RS2 fly. The upcoming fly to tye at the next fly tying session. I have watched the video from the FATC website on how to tye the RS2. The video says a standard CDC puffs, but all I am finding is a CDC Oiler Puff. Is their a difference between the standard & oiler CDC Puffs? I appreciate your clarification!
Mike, The cdc oiler puffs is what you want. This is because the feathers are located near the oil gland and are completely soaked in the ducks natural water proofing. Wings tied with cdc puffs have natural movement because there is no central quill.
May I suggest that we do a search on CDC “Cul de Canard” duck butt feathers to better understand what we are tying with. Great feathers, I love the stuff. There is info “TYING with CDC” by Hans Weilenmann, I found on line.
Hope this helps
Tim

Thanks for sharing the link Mike, not sure how to do that. I guess I will have to ask the wife.
