Since we are talking about flies for the trout streams in Missouri I thought I would share a fly that I have had some success with. The fly is called the Klinkhammer and was developed Barry Ord Clark. I will add the link on how to tie this fly at the bottom. This is a great fly to use as an emerger/dry fly in that the parachute and the hackle are on the surface and the rest of the fly is in the film or just below it. It works great all by itself or with a dropper fly, such as a midge, wet fly or soft hackle tied on tippet off the bend of the hook 12 to 24 inches long. The klinkhammer can serve as an indicator as long as the bottom fly isn’t so heavy as to pull it under. I’ve even found a couple of ways to tie this fly so that you are able to slide it up or down to adjust for depth. Check out the pattern and if you need tips on tying it I’ll be glad to assist.
Thanks for sharing Steve. I appreciate the encouragement to try the Klinkhammer. I’m definitely adding it to my fly tie list.
Tightlines,
