I had the opportunity to fish the South Platte River and Pouder River about a week ago. I was headed to the Big Horn River in MT but the snow, wind and blizard changed our plans. We decided to head south and spend 3 days on South Platte near Deckers and Cheesman Canyon and then up to the Pouder River near my friend’s house. A big Thank You for the information I have learned from the group in short time I have been a member. I was able to land some nice fish and loose some nice fish on my trip.

Hi Rick,
Beautiful part of the country! Outstanding looking photos.
What was the one hot fly used on the South Platte and Cheeseman? Best technique used?
I love Cheeseman, the Canyon is gorgeous looking but, the boulders made it very challenging for me.How did your new TFO workout?
Glad you had a great time. Thanks for posting!

P&P midge, Rainbow midge and Juju Baetis, we fished double files and the smaller the better. A hatch would happen in the afternoon and they were taking a Rusty Trico or Blue Wing Olive, we fished these double as well. The guides at Flies & Lies were very helpful and even offered up some free flies and some hot spots close to our cabin.
We did more site seeing than catching in Cheeseman Canyon, midges would get there attention but only the first couple of cast if you could get that close. We had luck early in the morning then they just shut down.
The Pouder was all 18-20 dry flies, shallow fast water that hold smaller fish. They would hold behind rocks.
TFO worked great, but it’s no Sage One. 🙂
