Trips: Cooler Temps Bring Out the Trout Hunters

Jim Franke sends us this report from Montauk State Park.

Gary Elliott, Dave Beerbower and Jim Franke decided to take advantage of the cooler temperatures and headed to Montauk on Wednesday, September 24.  The morning fishing was just average with several nice  Rainbows being taken on Griffiths Nat, and Zebra Midges. The afternoon proved to be excellent on Crane Fly Larvae, and Cerise Worms on the bottom. The key was to get the larvae/worm on the bottom and just let it lay there. At times, several fish would swarm around the motionless worm in competition for it.  Despite recent reports of bad food and service, we stopped at The Barn and Grill. We had fried chicken and it was excellent. We would have stopped at El Nopal, but Kenny couldn’t be reached to find out the Wednesday Margarita special.
