BJC Children’s Hospital Feather Fly Tying Event

6-17-2024

What a great time we all had at our June 17, Safety Pin Feather Fly Tying Event Volunteers Bob Born, Dan Staggenborg, John Steuterman and Steve Baker, met with Emily Rothschild at the security desk on the second floor of Children’s Hospital. We took the elevator up to the eighth floor child activities room to set up and start tying flies. It did not take long for some enthusiastic young patients to come in along with their aids and we got busy tying the safety pin flies for them. It is fun for the kids and for us as they pick out the colors and types of feathers to use.  The smiles take over as the safety pins come together with bright colors and wispy wings.  They all like to ware them on their Pajamas after they are complete.  The patients range in age from 3 years old up to 19 and every one of them are as excited as the next.  Dan even took the time to teach a young man how to tie a Wooly Bugger Fly, I believe that helping the children relax and to have a little fun are the most rewarding parts of volunteering. We have been doing this for over three years now everyone seems to enjoy it including the patients the Aids, the Staff and especially the Parents that are able to attend.  The time always goes by much to fast but we will soon be planning are next visit to Children’s and looking for volunteers to join in the fun. A big thank you to Bob, Dan and John for volunteering your time to help and the enthusiasm to make it work.  The FATC fellowship would not be what it is without members like you

Thanks to all
