Corrie ten Boom was a Dutch Christian who, along with her father and other family members, helped an estimated 800 Jews escape the Nazi Holocaust during WW II. She was imprisoned in a concentration camp for her actions. Her most famous book, The Hiding Place, describes the ordeal.
Corrie ten Boom once said that if the devil can’t make you sin, he’ll make you busy. There’s truth in that. Both sin and busyness have the exact same effect–they cut off your connection to God, to other people, and even to you own soul.
In May of 2022, I attended a fly fishing retreat put on by Eric Camfield of Altar Fly Fishing. It was held in the legendary Driftless Region of Wisconsin. The theme was The Soul of a Man and my focus was the health of my soul and my spiritual resilience. It was a time of reflection and strategic planning during which I defined my vision, as well as action steps leading to greater purpose, progress, faithfulness and joy. I established 6-12 month waypoints to help keep me on track and to measure my progress.
As any of you who participated in theĀ 2021 or the 2022 Half Time book study know, I’m very conscious of the brevity of life. I’m eternally grateful that God has given me life and a life mission. And I strive to make the most of every day. My life has been so fruitful and joyful since I’ve found purpose and mission.
I was wondering, what about you? Do you feel good about how you spend your days? How is the health of your soul? Is it time to get control of your life and your priorities?
