Trips: Winter Lake Fishing – Practice and Catching!

Ok, so you can’t fish on that day trip that was scheduled. You can only make an hour or two to fish. Or, you really would like to get some casting practice in and catching a few fish wouldn’t hurt either. Well, don’t forget about the many lakes in the St Louis region that stock trout in the winter.  Dave Beerbower, Jim Craig and Kenny Klimes went out to do just that on Monday (Dec. 9th). A little lake fishing in Fulton, Missouri to practice casting and catching.  Many of these lakes are catch and release right now but in February they turn to catch and keep. If only for a few hours don’t miss this opportunity to fish close to home. Lake fishing is a little different, but it will still hone your fly-fishing skills.  Make sure you know and follow the regulations for each lake (they should be posted). Below are some of the lakes that are stocked in the St Louis region.

Rainbow trout are stocked in the winter beginning in early November in the lakes listed below. Fishing is permitted year-round during normal park or area hours.

REGULATIONS

  • Limits and tackle restrictions vary by lake and season. Be sure to check for special area regulationsbefore you fish.
  • A Missouri fishing permit is required, and a trout permit also is required if trout are harvested.
